The Joyce Kilmer Elementary School represents the second project completed by FVHD for the Trenton, Abbott School District under the oversight of the New Jersey School Development Authority (NJSDA). Collaborating with Hill International, the project management firm for Region 6, and Dome Tech, the commissioning agency firm, FVHD successfully incorporated additional LEED credits at 60% design completion, enhancing the project's sustainability without significantly increasing the budget.

Key sustainable features integrated include:

  • Landscape and exterior design strategies to reduce heat islands, non-roof.
  • Reduction of light pollution.
  • Construction waste management, aiming to divert 50% of waste.
  • Use of local/regional materials, with 20% manufactured locally.
  • Selection of materials that improve indoor air quality.
