The project consisted primarily of converting an existing two-story volume space, used for dance, into two spaces. A new structural floor slab was added to provide an additional multi-purpose classroom lab at the second floor, designed with a high sound attenuation folding panel wall system, allowing the space to be bifurcated into two small labs. Each space was designed with a complement multimedia teaching wall and faculty support amenities. The lower level was refurbished as a dance/aerobic studio with a resilient wood floor system, new energy efficient lighting wall mirrors, dance rails and acoustical wall and ceiling treatment. The project also included renovations to the existing campus side entrance with a new canopy, lighting and vandal resistant exterior door assemblies.

Essex County College is committed to providing advanced facilities for both professional and instructional media production and post-production services for its students. The project scope included extensive interior alterations to the Media Production & Technology Center in order to modernize facilities and accommodate the expanded services which are offered at the College. The Center includes a state-of-the-art professional television studio and control room as well as post-production editing rooms. Separate from the professional facilities, the Media Production and Technology Center now includes new educational classrooms and spaces in which students are taught basic production and post-production concepts. The Center is the home of the College’s educational channel, TV 77/ENET, which is carried by Cablevision of Newark. In addition, the project included the construction of new administrative areas for Essex County College staff including office spaces, reception areas and a conference room.
