RUTGERS UNIVERSITY
Newark, New Jersey
FVHD has provided architectural planning, interior design and roof consulting services for several projects for Rutgers University at several campus locations.
The library addition projects relieved severe overcrowding in both the main and law libraries. The three-story building is situated between the existing building and the second story sky-walk. The buildings are divided evenly between the main and law libraries. The joint addition enables the University to address the spatial needs of both libraries in a cost effective manner. A lecture hall is also included in the project.
The Institute for Jazz Studies and its world-renowned collection of over 120,000 jazz recordings is the principal occupant of the addition to the main Rutgers Newark campus library. The new space is created by adding two floors to the wing of the Dana Library. In order to increase the functional efficiency of related services, relocation of the Library’s Main Media Services Department, Special Collections and Archives Unit was planned as part of the project. The addition was also necessary to begin implementation of the Library’s long-range plan to increase the 375,000 volumes of the Dana Core Collection to 750,000.
Other projects for Rutgers include window replacement at the Busch Campus, additions & renovations to the Livingston Recreation Center, as well as various other capital improvement projects such as roofing replacement and site fencing.
